Flashback: Remembering the night Becky Lynch announced she was pregnant

In 2020, wrestling fans were left with little to celebrate. The world was in the grip of a relentless pandemic, forcing a lockdown that kept crowds away from live wrestling events for over a year.

Despite the efforts of promotions such as WWE and AEW to carry on with weekly shows in empty arenas, the atmosphere remained somber, devoid of energy that only live crowds could bring.

Then, in early May, following a unique Money in the Bank premium live event, Becky Lynch showed up on Raw to make a special announcement.

With her was the women’s Money in the Bank briefcase, which was won by Asuka the night before.

After getting into the ring, Lynch began a very emotional speech, where she talked about her career. She specifically mentioned the fans who supported her through thick and thin and carried her into history.

Because of this, she felt that audiences deserved to hear the news from her, which was that she had to “go away for a little while.”

As viewers braced for the worst, Lynch broke down into tears. After falling silent, Asuka’s music played, and The Empress of Tomorrow made her way to the ring, unsure what to expect.

Immediately, Lynch complimented Asuka, calling her the best wrestler in the world. She then revealed that Asuka didn’t win a guaranteed title opportunity at Money in the Bank.

Instead, Asuka was the new Raw Women’s Champion.

As the reality set in, Asuka celebrated, which turned Lynch’s frown into a smile.

Once Asuka returned to the ring, Lynch continued her speech. What she revealed next turned into the most heartwarming moment in a down year for pro wrestling.

Looking Asuka in the eyes, Lynch said, “You go and be a warrior, ‘cause I’m gonna go be a mother.”

Asuka, who started to well up, began chanting Becky’s name, and the two rivals tearfully embraced. Lynch left that night but returned to WWE in 2021 at SummerSlam after giving birth to her daughter.

Lynch has since documented her experience in her memoir, Becky Lynch: The Man: Not Your Average Average Girl.

In an article by The Washington Post promoting her book, Lynch highlighted her role as a mother to her 3-year-old daughter, Roux, whom she travels with alongside her husband, Seth Rollins.

Lynch acknowledged that retirement to prioritize time with her daughter is inevitable, but for now, she remains focused as the WWE Women’s World Champion.

Yet, in a career filled with many memorable moments, Lynch sharing her joy with fans stands as perhaps her most touching highlight.
