Latest announcement about WWE and Becky Lynch is said to be negotiating a contract today.
WWE has just days to sign Becky Lynch to a new contract, or else “The Man” will become pro wrestling’s hottest free agent.
According to Fightful Select (h/t Cageside Seats), the current WWE Women’s World Champion has yet to sign a new contract:
“Though there have been ‘ongoing conversations’ between WWE and Becky Lynch about a new contract,
Fightful Select reports that no deal is in place with just weeks to go before Lynch’s current contract expires at the end of this month.”
Like this year’s Kentucky Derby, Becky Lynch’s potential contract signing will be a photo finish. And this isn’t the first time that’s happened with a top WWE star this year.
In fact, current World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest just signed a new deal in February, only a“few days away” from his contract expiration date.
Drew McIntyre, arguably WWE’s hottest heel, also recently re-signed at the last minute while Seth Rollins, Lynch’s real-life husband, inked a new contract just weeks ahead of his contract expiration.
All of those stars signed significant multi-year contracts that will keep them around WWE’s main event scene for the foreseeable future.
Will Lynch be next? Well, she certainly should be, but “The Man” does have the potential to command the biggest payday of any women’s wrestler in pro wrestling history. And that could make things interesting.
It wasn’t long ago, after all, that AEW reportedly signed Mercedes Mone—formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE—to a deal that has made her the highest paid female wrestler, well, ever.
Given that Lynch is arguably the best and most accomplished women’s wrestler WWE has ever had, she could—and should—be seeking a contract that tops what Mone is making in WWE.

An eight-time world champion, Lynch has been a cornerstone of WWE for the past decade, making history as the first woman to headline a WrestleMania and helping pave the way for the Women’s Evolution that changed the course of pro wrestling forever. Considering that stars like McIntyre and Rollins were able to land substantial WWE deals, the same should be true for Lynch.

The only real question about Lynch potentially leaving WWE is whether AEW President Tony Khan would somehow be able to pry her away from WWE with a lucrative deal that includes creative freedom and a favorable schedule.
Khan, after all, has said that he plans on being “agressive” in his pursuit of talent this year, just as he has been recently.
AEW has inked top stars like Mone, Kazuchika Okada and Will Ospreay to deals, ultimately beating WWE in some of the biggest free agent sweepstakes of the past half-decade.
Lynch is a bigger star than all of those aforementioned names, and after Mone’s deal potentially reset the market for women’s wrestlers, Lynch’s contract is coming up at precisely the right time.
In much the same way that Mone engaged in contract talks with WWE and ultimately got a fantastic deal with AEW because of it, the temptation is there for Lynch to the same.
While Lynch has been the heart and soul of WWE’s women’s division, she’s also been seeking equal pay for women and has not made any sort of firm commitment to WWE.
It should be a no-brainer for WWE to re-sign a star who’s been so important to its growth and success during its biggest boom period in more than two decades.
But you know how the saying goes, especially in pro wrestling? Never say never.
